The people behind LARREN: researchers and practitioners from forestry, social science, geography, geology, education technology and occupational safety, united by landscape research and restoration.
Our Team
An interdisciplinary team
Landscape restoration needs more than one kind of expertise. Our members bring together forest informatics and engineering, conservation policy, value-chain governance, applied geology, development planning, educational technology and health and safety management.
Dr. Kato Samuel Namuene
Department of Forestry and Wildlife
University of Buea Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (FAVM)
Specialty and Research Interest
Dr. Kato Samuel Namuene is a University Lecturer of Forestry specializing in Forest Informatics at the University of Buea, where he earned his Ph.D. in Botany (Forest Informatics). His doctoral research led to the development of KatLog Pro, a timber traceability software designed to track timber from harvest to sale while evaluating exploitation compliance and ecological impacts on forest stands.
With 17 peer-reviewed journal publications, Dr. Namuene combines expertise in computational forestry, statistics, climate finance, and governance with extensive IT certifications in Data Science, Web Development, Relational Databases, and Artificial Intelligence. Recognized internationally for his interdisciplinary work, he actively participates in global research collaborations and is frequently invited to serve as a Keynote Speaker, Technical Committee Member, Session Chair, and Judge at major international conferences.
Dr Louis Njie Ndumbe
Department of Forestry and Wildlife
University of Buea Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (FAVM)
Specialty and Research Interest
Dr Ndumbe is a social scientist and environmentalist with interest in human-nature interactions, particularly forest and conservation policy. His research interests focus on the interactions between people, natural resources and markets, specifically on the social and environmental impacts of the governance of the landscape - value chain nexus.
He investigates how non-timber forest products value chains are governed, their sustainability and impacts on livelihoods and landscapes, and improvements via governance (regulation, customary, collective and market-driven) arrangements. He is interested in issues of power, gender and inclusiveness. Dr Ndumbe seeks to contribute to debates reconciling tropical forest conservation and use with poverty, livelihoods and sustainable trade, using participatory and mixed method approaches.
