Plan of Action

How LARREN will move from building the network to restoring degraded landscapes with communities, step by step.

Our Roadmap

From a strong network to restored landscapes

Our plan of action turns LARREN’s core objectives into six connected phases: land restoration and tree planting, community and youth empowerment, environmental education, science-driven solutions, and actionable projects and research. Each phase builds on the one before it and is carried out with local communities and partners.

Phase01Q4 2026

Network foundation and governance

Bring the General Assembly, Executive Committee and Coordination Team into full working order, agree roles and reporting lines, and open membership to scientists, practitioners, students and community volunteers.

In progress
Phase02Q4 2026 – Q1 2027

Site assessment and baseline survey

Carry out field assessments at the ten priority sites: quarries, mountain runoff paths, water catchments and the flood-prone Cassava Farms area. Record the state of vegetation, soil, water and drainage to set a baseline for restoration.

Planned
Phase03Q1 2027

Community and stakeholder engagement

Hold consultations with residents, local councils and planning authorities. Agree community-led protection zones, buffer zones around water sources and the roles each partner will play in restoration.

Planned
Phase04Q2 2027

Restoration and tree planting

Start reforestation and land rehabilitation on degraded slopes and quarry sites, plant protective vegetation around catchments, and support drainage and waterway clearance with local partners.

Key milestone
Phase05Q2 – Q3 2027

Training, empowerment and education

Deliver hands-on restoration training for rural women and youth to create sustainable jobs, and run grassroots campaigns that raise awareness of catchment protection and responsible land use.

Planned
Phase062027 onward

Monitoring, research and policy advocacy

Monitor restored sites, publish evidence and best practices, and take science-based recommendations on landscape governance and land use to decision-makers.

Ongoing

Timeframes are indicative and will be updated as plans are confirmed with members, communities and partners.
